Lee water-sewer company asking to double rates

A utility company serving a portion of southern Lee County will go before the N.C. Utilities Commission on Oct. 21 for approval of a 102 percent rate increase for water and sewer service.

SANFORD, N.C. — A water-and-sewer utility company serving a portion of southern Lee County will go before the N.C. Utilities Commission on Oct. 21 for approval of a 102 percent, a commission spokesman said Thursday.

Illinois-based Utilities Inc. serves the Carolina Trace community, located near the Lee-Harnett county line.

Any rate increases requested by the company have to be approved by the commission.
