Lee County school bus catches fire; students, driver safe

— Lee County school bus 173 caught fire Wednesday morning near the intersection of Colon and Riddle Roads, according to school spokeswoman Sharon Spence.

The fire started in the engine compartment.

"The bus driver stopped the bus and safely evacuated the approximately 15 high school students on board," Spence said in an e-mail. "The students were placed on another bus and transported to school."
