Leading US Senate candidates Ross, Burr in October TV debate

Posted September 16

— The major-party U.S. Senate candidates in North Carolina this fall have agreed to a television debate next month.

An arm of the North Carolina Association of Broadcasters announced Friday that Republican incumbent Richard Burr and Democratic challenger Deborah Ross are participating in the hour-long debate. It takes place Oct. 13 at the University of North Carolina Television studios in Research Triangle Park. Libertarian candidate Sean Haugh won't be on the stage with them.

The debate will air on about 30 TV stations and a state radio network.

This is the first debate scheduled between Ross and Burr. Ross said Friday she still wants Burr to agree to three more debates before early voting begins Oct. 20. She laid out the venues in a letter to Burr last month.
