— Police said that a lawyer was attacked on streets near the Durham County jail Wednesday morning.

Lawyer Donald Dickerson was attacked by Jose Manuel Diaz Torres, 46, of Durham, near Mangum and Pettigrew streets shortly before 10 a.m., police spokeswoman Kammie Michael.

Dickerson and Torres were both treated for injuries at Duke University Hospital.

Michael said that it does not appear that Torres knew the victim, nor were there indications of a robbery.

Torres was charged with aggravated assault, assault on a law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct and resisting, delaying and obstructing an officer.

Torres was listed as an absconder from parole stemming from a 2008 conviction for driving while impaired, state Department of Correction records show.

Wow, I cannot believe how mean and mean spirited so many of the posts are here. I guess one can be hateful when their identity is concealed.

I wonder if Mr. Dickerson will represent Mr. Torres and get him a nice suspended sentence. No wait, I bet he will want real justice in this case...

Poor Mr. Dickerson. Quoting his own words here, "He is innocent until the plea deal."
