Lawmakers continue work on alcohol, vandalism bills

Members of the state House and Senate continued working on a couple of less controversial bills Monday night.

RALEIGH, N.C. — As lawmakers in the Senate took votes on bills related to abortion and gay marriage, House and Senate lawmakers also dealt with a number of less controversial measures. They included:
  • Senators voted 40-7 to approve omnibus alcohol legislation. The measure would ban powered alcohol, allow for the sale of antique liquors and allow distilleries to sell single bottles of the products they produce to tourists. That measure now goes to the House for concurrence.
  • Members of the House voted 109-0 to make an assault on a member of the National Guard performing his or her official duties a felony. That measure now goes to the governor for his signature.
  • Members of the House voted 98-11 to make certain repeats act of vandalism a felony. That measure now goes to the governor for his signature.
