RALEIGH, N.C. — The Senate last week passed a bill that would allow shoppers to sample beer in North Carolina supermarkets.
The House is now considering the amended version of House Bill 1595.

The bill notes that wine tastings have been allowed in retail stores since 2001 and have helped spur the growth of the state's wine industry. Lawmakers hope consumers who get a taste of beers brewed in North Carolina will likewise help that industry develop.

If approved, the law would take effect in October.
