— State lawmakers Thursday gave final approval to a plan that allows Fayetteville to annex 85 percent of Fort Bragg.

Fayetteville city leaders have already voted to support the legislation, which would make Fayetteville North Carolina's fifth largest city – a population increase from about 168,000 ot 206,000.

Spring Lake would annex the remaining part of Fort Bragg, gaining about 5,000 residents.

"Someone PLEASE explain how a local government can annex a FEDERAL government property."

that's exactly what i came here to ask...

Well, I can see why DOD would want it. Saves a pile of money that can go to other better uses. No need for paying for water and sewer, No need for FBFD, don't need to call up MP units when 16th Bde deploys, etc Seems like a real cost cutter for DOD and a pile of unpaid for services for Faettenam. Well, DOD
will pay for water and sewer.

That's my question too. It's not like Fayetteville will provide services to them. There are still areas FAY. annexed some time back that the city still isn't providing services for now.
