FAIRMONT, N.C. — A Robeson County woman has won $1 million in a North Carolina Education Lottery scratch-off game, lottery officials said Monday.

Wanda Evans purchased her Cash Blowout ticket at Mr. G’s convenience store on Iona Street in Fairmont.

Officials said Evans chose to take her winnings as a $600,000 lump sum rather than an annuity paid out over 20 years. After withholdings, she received a check for $408,006.

Cash Blowout tickets went on sale Jan. 10, with three top prizes of $4 million and seven $1 million prizes. One of the $4 million prize-winners has yet to come forward, officials said.

Robeson County schools have received $46.9 million in lottery funds since the lottery began. By law, the money goes toward salaries for teachers in kindergarten through third grades, school construction, pre-kindergarten programs for at-risk children and need-based college scholarships and financial aid.
