Late-day rain won't mess up most Memorial Day plans
Weather cooperated for morning events on the final fay of the WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest, but isolated showers and thunderstorms could pop up during the evening.

Temperatures will be on the warm side of normal for the holiday, WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss said.
Highs will near 90 degrees, and the heat will be paired with a UV index of 9-10, so any outdoor fun should include the use of sunscreen.
Much of the day will be dry across central and eastern North Carolina, with the chance for an isolated shower or storm going up during the late evening and nighttime hours.
"During the late afternoon and early evening, we'll develop a slight chance of showers or gusty storms, with about a 40 percent chance of storms later this evening into the night," Moss said.
Some of the storms that form late Monday could become severe, with damaging straight-line winds and hail being the main threat.
The Triangle and areas to the south are under a slight risk for severe weather, the second of five threat levels, according to the National Weather Service.
Tuesday will also include a small chance of showers and storms before drier air arrives for the middle of the week.
Highs will be in the mid-80s through the weekend.
