Whenever I'm visiting a local museum or historic site, we usually peruse the gift shops and I always think to myself, "I need to remember this at birthday and Christmas time." I always find unique items for kids that I don't find in the average toy department.
So, over the next week, I'll feature some top picks from local museum gift shops. Today, it's the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh, which actually boasts two shops - one in the museum and one in the Nature Research Center, its new wing.
Here are recommendations from Heather Heath, manager:

Desk Pendulum: The ultimate "desk toy." Using Sir Issac Newton's third law has never been this mesmerizing!
Swing one ball and one ball on opposite ends swings in response. $8.95. For ages 8 and up.

Bingo!: We have several science-related bingo games that are fun for ages 3 and up. $16.95.
