Last day to use Harris Teeter Rainchecks with coupons

Posted March 28

Harris Teeter rain check

Reminder: Tuesday, 3/29/17, is the last day to use rainchecks with coupons at Harris Teeter.

Harris Teeter announced today a new Raincheck Policy that includes expiration dates, a huge change in stacking with coupons and information on how long you have to use your current rainchecks.

If you use rainchecks at Harris Teeter you know this is an important update.

These changes go info effect March 29, 2017, according to corporate Harris Teeter.

Biggest Change

The most significant change is that as of 3/29, shoppers can no longer combine a raincheck with a paper coupon. As we all know, this is one of the ways couponers are able to get the best deals when the store is out of stock.

With some of the fabulous sales, the stock is depleted in hours and the stores are not always able to get sufficient stock before the sale ends. When shoppers can get a raincheck and use it to get the sale price the next week when the shelves are restocked, being able to use a coupon with the raincheck means that they can get the good deal they had planned to get the previous week when the store was out of the sale item.

With this new policy, shoppers will only be able to get the sale price. They will not be able to get the sale price and use a coupon, as they could have done during the week the sale was valid (but the store was out of stock).

This will also change the entire dynamic of Super Doubles because some of the best deals were found using rainchecks and coupons combined. That will no longer be an option.

If Harris Teeter is looking to send a clear message to couponers, their mission has been accomplished.

Expiration Date

The other change to the policy is that rainchecks now expire in 60 days. Until now, there was no expiration date.

Will these changes influence your Harris Teeter shopping habits? Leave a comment in the Comments section with your thoughts.

Below is the policy that has been updated at HarrisTeeter.com.

Raincheck Policy

**** Rainchecks expire 60 days from date of issue and are accepted at any Harris Teeter store. * effective 3/29/2017 (this is new to the policy)

**** Rainchecks cannot be combined with any paper coupon for the same item. *effective 3/29/2017 (this is new to the policy)

Rainchecks can be issued for items out of stock during coupon promotions for the sale price of the item only.

We reserve the right to limit raincheck quantities based on product availability and advertised limits.

Rainchecks can be written for a limit of three or three “deals” unless otherwise stated in the ad.

We do not reissue rainchecks for quantities not purchased at time of redemption.

For deals where the pricing may vary, the customer must pay the highest of the amounts.

Rainchecks cannot be combined with current sale price.

According to a local store manager, unredeemed existing rainchecks will expire May 31, 2017.

Last week, Cape Cod Thin Chips were an e-vic special. $1.87 limit of 4. I was at the Harris Teeter at 55/Avent Ferry in Holly Springs on Sat 3/25 and Tues 3/28, and HT was out of stock of reg. thins. They had BBQ. So...I got a raincheck. Wed, Mar 29 I'm at HT and you guessed it, the shelf is overflowing w/ Reg Thins. I get 4 bags. Hand the cashier my raincheck and a digital coupon for .50¢. They inform me they can't take the coupon. WHAAATTT!!?? I told the store manager, if the product would have been on the shelf yesterday,Tuesday, I could have bought the chips for $1,87 and used the coupon. Today, Wed, I can buy the chips for $1,87 using the raincheck you gave me but I CAN'T use the coupon??! I told the Manager, I need for that register to kick out a Survey for me. Well, I did NOT get a survey but I did get a digital coupon for $1,00 off ...you guessed it... Cape Cod Thin Chips.

i think they are becoming more like kroger's. they said they would not change, but i have found many changes that are more like kroger's now. even their cust service is not as great as it used to be. the reason to get a raincheck when they are out is to use with a coupon when it is back in stock. i think this is a terrible policy and hurts the regular shoppers, not the hoarders. no sense in getting a raincheck anymore.

While this is an unfortunate change in policy, I am not surprised. My conversations with supervisors have been of people who are there very very early on super double sale days to get as many items as they can only to sell those items at the flea market during the coming weekend. While we all love a good deal, I feel this is an abuse of the system. Many times we get rainchecks not because we really need the items but because we are hoping for a coupon to go with it at a later date. HT has by far been the most lax in their coupon policy. Some tightening of the rules is not unexpected.

observant - My HT corporate contact said that their HT digital coupons were supposed to stack with rainchecks even after the new policy becomes effective. Guess we will see starting tomorrow.

TJ84 - well done on quoting my motto! :-)

Thanks to everyone for your feedback. You all know where I stand on this issue.

That is a stack of paper headed into the trash. Those rainchecks are worthless without coupons to match up. That is why I have been sitting on some of them for years waiting for a coupon to match with it.

Dr D, I can only imagine what those changes might be regarding the coupon policy. My attitude is wait and see. If the savings aren't there then neither am I! As Faye always says its your money spend it wisely.

I'm shaking my head, in agreement with LUVSTOQ and others about the new policy of not accepting paper coupons with raincheck items. A CS person told me that the changes to the rain check policy were because "some customers had been abusing or misusing the rain check policy", but I don't understand that logic, unless perhaps their plan is to electronically limit the number of rainchecks a customer may receive. They also told me that soon there would also be changes to their coupon policy, but did not elaborate on what those changes might be.

I know that stacking a paper coupon with a raincheck is no longer allowed after today - but what about the digital coupons - will they combine with a raincheck ?? ThankYou !

This new RC policy is really sad. I hope their bottom line proves that they've made a big mistake and that they fix it sooner than later.
