Land of Oz ticket sell-outs leave many fans clicking their heels together

Tickets go on sale each Monday and cost $12.50. Access is limited to adults and children 3 feet tall and taller.

Many people who tried to buy tickets this week reported that the website was down and when it finally was back online, tickets were sold out.

Tiffany Tew said she tried for more than two hours to purchase tickets but got a "no server available" message on the site. She tried calling the phone number on the website which went to a recorded message that said the mailbox was full.

Many users on social media said a similar situation occurred last week when tickets went on sale.

"The ticketing agency used for sales experienced an overwhelming amount of users trying to purchase tickets at the same time, causing their server to crash. They were working with their support team in order to fix the issue the moment this occurred and got it running as quickly as they were capable of doing so. Once the server was finally up and running again, tickets sold out in less than two minutes," Land of Oz representative Sean Barrett said.

Barrett noted that each tour is limited to 60 people - meaning there are only 360 tickets available for each Friday's set of tours.

"We are very sorry for those who are upset with not being able to purchase tickets, whether it was because of the server crash, the limited availability, or the combination of the two. A ticketing site crashing is not an uncommon occurrence for those that experience such high volume traffic all at once," Barrett said, mentioning that the popular musical "Hamilton" caused Broadway Direct's lottery ticketing website to crash when it launched in January. 

"The ticketing agent is currently working towards rectifying the issues that have occurred when the sales for the 'Journey with Dorothy' Tours were launched," he said. 

The park features a scale replica of Autie Em's house, a yellow brick road and the witch's castle. Visitors ride the chair lift ($10) to the top of the mountain to begin the tour.

Land of Oz has been out of commission since the 1980s, but for the third straight summer the park has offered "Family Fun Month" in June. It also opens to the public for Autumn in Oz in September. That weekend of events will welcome more than 8,500 guests. Tickets for Autumn in Oz will go on sale soon, Barrett said.
