Posted August 8

Kroger Fill the Bus Food Drive

Kroger will be hosting the 5th annual “Fill The Bus” event supporting the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina on Saturday, August 12. They are actually going to try to fill an entire DATA bus at the Kroger on Hillsborough Road in Durham with as many donated items as possible!

Kroger is partnering with the Durham Area Transit Authority to host a “Fill the Bus Food Drive.” All donations will go to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina.

Efforts will be made to fill a DATA bus with as many donated items as possible, including nonperishable food, diapers and wipes, feminine products, hand sanitizers, toothbrushes, soap, shaving products, toilet tissue and paper towels.

This is a wonderful opportunity to donate some of those super deals you score every week using coupons and sales.

What to Donate: Nutritious, non-perishable food. Listed below are the most needed items:

* Canned Fruits, Vegetables, Meat, and low-sodium Soup in pop-top cans
* Whole Grain Pasta, Brown Rice, Dried Beans, and Cereal
* Peanut Butter
* For Infants: Formula, Infant Cereal, Diapers, and Wipes
* For Kids: Fruit Cups, Juice Boxes, Granola Bars, Crackers, Popcorn
* Non-Food Essentials: Hygiene Items, Household Items, and Paper Products

Please - No perishable foods, loose glass, or plastic jars of baby food as they will have to be discarded due to health regulations

When: Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Where: Kroger, 3457 Hillsborough Road, Durham, NC 27705. According to the Food Bank website, you can donate non-perishable food and non food items to any Triangle Kroger on Saturday, but the bus will be at the Durham location.

Kroger is hosting this event because summer is an especially critical time for FBCENC to collect donations because many children do not have access to food and other necessities they would otherwise receive at school. Many of these families turn to their local food bank for assistance, so the supply is often diminished during these months.

See more information on the Food Bank website.
