Run 2.5 miles, eat a dozen doughnuts, then run 2.5 miles back to the finish line, while trying to hold it all down!

Many racers lose this battle during the annual Krispy Kreme Challenge, which is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
The event started in 2004 as a dare between a few North Carolina State University undergrads. Run from the campus bell tower to the Krispy Kreme and eat a dozen donuts, then run back. Sophomore Ben Gaddy was the first winner with a time of 34 minutes and 27 seconds.
It has only grown from there. Even making it onto Sports Illustrated’s “102 More Things You Gotta Do Before You Graduate.”

People race alone or in teams and many sport some awesome costumes!

Racers often come in costume to the Krispy Kreme Challenge. The goal is to run about 2.5 miles to Krispy Kreme, eat a dozen donuts and run back.
To help encourage great costumes, Visit Raleigh is presenting the first K2C Costume Contest. You can enter as a single contestant or group.
The single winner will receive a Nike+ FuelBand (valued at $150), while the group grand prize winner gets a $200 gift certificate to the Wake County restaurant of their choice. Just go to VisitRaleigh.com to enter. Only one entry needed per group. Judging will take place before the race.

I will be one of the judges this year and we will be looking for costumes that coincide with the area's appeal to visitors. Make those outfits smart, unexpected, celebratory and dynamic.

Winners will be announced at the end of the race.

Still hoping to get a spot in the Krispy Kreme Challenge?

While the general racing spots are all filled up, there are a few $100 Children's Promise Charity Spots still available. And remember all proceeds go to the North Carolina Children's Hospital.
