As part of our Joy it Forward campaign, we are compiling a list of area charity opportunities and we need your help! Please tell us about any upcoming giving opportunities you have heard about.

If you know of a food drive, charity ball, toy drive, coat/clothing collection, backpack buddies collection, Angel Tree, soup kitchen in need of volunteers or any event that involves paying it forward and helping out our neighbors in need, we want to know about it!

Please submit your event or activity to our WRAL Out and About calendar. Be sure to choose the Community Fundraiser category.

Our goal is to have a one-stop resource where you can find out all the great ways to help out in the community!

Memories for Marcus @ Hi5 on Glennwood, December 5th 6-9, bring an unwrapped gift to be donated to Wake Medical for kids in the hospital during the holiday season....or donate $20...in return...free buffet, door prizes, & silent auction. Drinks extra. Awesome fun!!! checkout the website. See you there!

The North Carolina Coastal Pines Girl Scouts and the Alms house of Fayetteville are accepting food donations. The Alms house is always looking for volunteers to help serve meals at Christmas.

Southern Jewelers out of Sanford NC is doing a scavenger hunt with prizes. One of the items requested is a new toy equal to $10 retail value. All toys will be going to a local group that hands out these toys to the surrounding areas. On top of that all of the givers have an opportunity to win prizes for the donations. Top prize is a strand of chocolate fresh water pears valued at $280. look up Southern jewelers on Facebook for more info. Help us help the children have a merry Christmas.

Activate Good is highlighting some holiday opportunities: http://activategood.org/event.php?eid=3

I know that working in the school systems, there are ALWAYS needs in each school...no matter location. Call your local school (and don't forget the middle/high school kids...they love Christmas too!) and see if you can assist with a need there...

Hi all! Thanks for the great suggestion, please be sure to list them at http://www.wral.com/entertainment/out_and_about/page/4996688/ rather than just in the comments section on this post. Thanks!

There is an orphanage in Oxford - the Masonic Home for Children. I always think of them, because my grandmother worked there for a while. My grandmother filled in for the "house parent(s)" who were taking vacation, etc.

The orphanzge has different "houses" for different ages of children. The needs list gives a general overview of what each "house" needs.

The website is: http://www.mhc-oxford.org/ They have a needs list, gift card or angel tree, etc.: http://www.mhc-oxford.org/christmas1.html

Be a Santa to a Senior...a program for helping seniors get the basics that are needed. Home Instead is sponsoring the program and even though the deadline is December 6th, you can still donate to Home Instead up til Christmas. here is the link http://www.beasantatoasenior.com/

I just signed up to sponsor a family with a Holiday Meal through Wake County's site. You are matched with a family through their Holiday Cheer program, and cook/deliver their holiday meal.
