KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — A Knightdale preschool won a $15,000 construction grant that was used to build a community playground Saturday.

The Knightdale United Methodist Church Preschool, at 7071 Forestville Road, was awarded the grant as part of "Let's Play," a community partnership led by Dr Pepper and Snapple to help kids and families stay active.

Heather Leser, the preschool director, said the opportunity is amazing for the community.

"Our preschool started as an effort to provide a needed service to the Knightdale community. As we have watched the community of Knightdale grow, we recognized the number of places for children and families to safely play should grow, too," Leser said.

Volunteers, including church members, preschool families, Boy and Girl scouts and neighbors, helped build the new playground.

"It has truly been a community build, kind of like an old-fashioned barn raising, but for a playground," Leser said.

The new playground is now open for people in the community to enjoy.
