The grand opening for Knightdale's newest park is now slated for Sept. 19, about a month later than planned.

July's heavy rains delayed the opening, according to town staff. Crews lost many days last month as they worked to complete the major park, which includes a large playground, dog park, athletic fields and more.

The new grand opening is set for 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 19, the town announced Tuesday. The event will include farmers' market vendors, food trucks and local artists. The ribbon cutting for the playground and dog park will be at 6:30 p.m. The park sits near downtown Knightdale.

The second phase of construction will start as soon as the first one is finished. The second phase includes picnic shelters, a common area for events and room for an amphitheater. It should be complete next summer.

You can spend a minute watching crews work on the park in this YouTube video posted by the town.
