KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — Police in Knightdale were defending themselves early Thursday when officers shot someone while responding to a suicide threat, the town said.

Knightdale's Department of Public Safety said officers responding to the threat at 324 Park Ave. around 12:30 a.m. were outside the home talking to a family member when an armed subject confronted them.

They "were forced to discharge their weapons to defend themselves," the town said in a statement.

The person who was shot was taken to WakeMed with injuries that weren't considered to be life-threatening. No one else was injured.

Authorities did not provide any additional information but said the State Bureau of Investigation, Wake County Sheriff's Office and Knightdale police investigating the shooting.

That is a standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.
