— Police in Knightdale were defending themselves early Thursday when officers shot someone while responding to a suicide threat, the town said.

Knightdale's Department of Public Safety said officers responding to the threat at 324 Park Ave. around 12:30 a.m. were outside the home talking to a family member when an armed subject confronted them.

They "were forced to discharge their weapons to defend themselves," the town said in a statement.

The person who was shot was taken to WakeMed with injuries that weren't considered to be life-threatening. No one else was injured.

Authorities did not provide any additional information but said the State Bureau of Investigation, Wake County Sheriff's Office and Knightdale police investigating the shooting.

That is a standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

DETAILS were left out of the report.

Classified - not if your job was security. Would you hire the ones that everyone pushes around or the ones that take charge of a situation. Since you don't seem that bright you'd base it all on price anyways.

piloterror1 - maybe we'll get lucky and they'll throw you in front of them next time it happens.

So many comments with various opinions... shoot to kill cause now we have to pay the suspects bills etc... and on and on it goes. I am PROUD to say that a member of my family is on the Knightdale force. I have not spoken to them in the last day or so therefore I can not say if they were involved or not but I can tell you their take on the situation. Law enforcement did their job. There was a threat and the proper amount of force was used to remedy the situation. If my loved one had to fire a shot like this they would much rather wound the suspect, take them for medical care and then see that they were locked up than to kill them. Having to live with the fact that you fired your weapon to protect the community is hard enough because you would rather not have to shoot someone. BUT having to live with killing someone takes it to whole new level. If killing them is the only way to stop them then they would but they would rather stop them without taking their life. Thankful for LEO!

I think the "comments" are more entertaining that the NEWS. It's almost funny to see how many different directions people take things.

"And wherever it is you might work, those that make purchases pay your salary. What makes it any different?" - KnightFlyer

If we we're to have the same arrogant attitude with our customers we'd be closed.

"Yeah the arm chair qb's that pay your salary." Classified

It's called capitalism, we all pay each others salary one way or another through taxes or purchases.
