CAMERON, N.C. — A Union Pines High School student was taken into custody Tuesday after ambushing and stabbing the school resource officer, officials said.

The unidentified student stabbed the school officer, Deputy Stephen Clark, 43, eight times in the back with an 8-inch knife, but Clark's body armor stopped the blows and he wasn't injured, according to an incident report.

The student was removed from the school campus, officials said, and he was later charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault with a deadly weapon on a law enforcement officer and possession of a weapon on school property.
