Knife-wielding man suspected in five Fayetteville robberies

Fayetteville police suspect a knife-wielding man has committed at least five robberies in the western part of the city in the past two weeks.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Fayetteville police suspect a knife-wielding man has committed at least five robberies in the western part of the city in the past two weeks.

In all five robberies, a man walked into a business, brandished a knife and demanded money, police said.

The first robbery happened Nov. 26, and the latest ones on Thursday.

Police said a white man with his face covered threatened a clerk with a knife at Kangaroo gas station, 100 S. Reilly Road at 11:27 p.m. The clerk ran out of the store and called 911.

The robber possibly left in a blue SUV, possibly a Jeep Cherokee or Jeep Liberty, with a black tire cover on a spare tire on its rear.

At 11:31 p.m., a man matching the description of the first robbery suspect committed a similar robbery at a Hess Wilco, 670 N. Reilly Road, police said. He took an undisclosed amount of cash from the customer and the business. He was last seen running toward apartments behind the gas station.

Police said the other three robberies happened at the Kangaroo gas station, 6489 Yadkin Road, at 12:33 a.m. Nov. 26; Scotchman gas station, 6508 Yadkin Road, at 12:09 a.m. Nov. 27; and Hess-Wilco gas station, 4560 Raeford Road, at 1:03 a.m. Nov. 28.

Police described the robber as a white man, in his late 20s to early 30s, weighing 140 to 150 pounds. He has red eyebrows. He has been seen wearing a dark hoodie sweatshirt, light jeans, black shoes and olive drab or green, mesh-style cloth over his face.
