Kinston police on Monday charged a 39-year-old pastor with sexual crimes involving a teenage boy. 

<b>KINSTON, N.C.</b> — Kinston police on Monday charged a 39-year-old pastor with sexual crimes involving a teenage boy. 

Telas Ray Staten, of 606 Mitchell St., is charged with statutory sexual offense, indecent liberties with a child and crimes against nature. 

Staten, who serves as a pastor at St. Matthews Church of Christ in New Bern, told Kinston police he is also employed at the Lenoir County Boys and Girls Club.

Staten was in the Lenoir County jail Tuesday under a $510,000 secured bond. He was scheduled to make a first court appearance Tuesday morning.
