Kinston chef seeks funding for PBS show

The life of Vivian Howard, chef and owner of the Chef and the Farmer in Kinston, is the subject of a new PBS documentary series set to premiere in September, but it still needs your help to get on the air.

RALEIGH, N.C. — The life of Vivian Howard, chef and owner of the Chef and the Farmer in Kinston, is the subject of a new PBS documentary series set to premiere in September, but it still needs your help to get on the air.

Over the past two years, Vivian and her husband Ben Howard shot, edited and sold their 13 segment series to PBS, but there are still some additional expenses associated with a PBS broadcast.

So, the couple started an Indiegogo campaign to raise $50,000 to broadcast Season 1 and begin work on Season 2.

Here's a little back-story about the Howards: After working in Manhattan, they moved back to eastern North Carolina to Vivian's hometown of Kinston to open the Chef and the Farmer. They also started a family - now raising twins.

"A Chef's Life" focuses on eastern North Carolina cuisine and where it comes from. You can see a little more about in a preview at the campaign site below.

The show looks pretty interesting!

They have raised just over $18,000 toward their goal. All funds donated by July 11 will be used because the project is set up as a flexible funding campaign. Indiegogo gives users that option as opposed to Kickstarter, which requires all funds to be raised in order for folks to get the money.
