— A former teacher of Jawad Razai remembers him as a young man with a kind face and gentle spirit.

Razai, 18, was killed Tuesday in what investigators believe was an attempted robbery at a home on Pebblestone Drive in Durham. Razai went to the home to purchase a phone he found on Craigslist, police said.

Jarrion Hood, 18, is charged with Razai’s killing. He was also shot during the incident.

“You’re just kind of stunned because you don’t expect it,” Ann Hamilton said.

Hamilton was Razai’s special education teacher at Leesville High School, where he graduated in June.

“It's never easy to lose a child, or anyone you love, but to lose a young man like Jawad in such a brutal way, there are no words to put to it,” she said.

Hamilton described Razai as respectful, pleasant person who was going to be successful in life.

“He had it together, he had the family support, he knew what he wanted to do,” she said. “And that’s gone.”

Good ole Durham! What a lovely town!

I see now why businesses DON'T want to locate to Durham. And the local government does nothing about it.

Nearly all violent crimes are committed by repeat offenders. Pop Quiz - What do you think will be more effective in curbing violent crime?
    1) Keeping violent criminals in jail.
    2) Taking guns away from law abiding citizens?

Jarrion Hood needs to be put to death. He went to this "meeting" with the intent of committing robbery. Since he knew he was going to be using a gun, he had to have some expectation that things could go wrong. This in itself, requires 1st degree murder, which carries a sentence of up to Death. Let's use it this time. And I mean really use it.

Well, the facts say that it was a self-inflicted injury, but the all-knowing commenters here say the late Mr. Razai must have been a lowlife criminal who surely had his own illegal gun, so I'm not sure what to believe.

It would be nice to know if the killer accidentally shot himself or if Jawad brought a gun, too? I remember a report that there was only one gun found at the scene.

What is puzzling is how did the guy charged get shot too? Did the deceased shoot him?

The troll's intent is to disparage Durham. If you wish to purchase something on CL, you should meet in a very public place, or maybe even at a police station.
