Kenly man charged in Smithfield assault

Smithfield police arrested a Kenly man Friday for allegedly shooting two men last week with a stolen 9 mm sub-machine gun.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Smithfield police arrested a Kenly man Friday for allegedly shooting two men last week with a stolen 9 mm sub-machine gun.

Eric Cruz Pineda, 29, of 1344 Princeton Kenly Road, Lot 47, was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, one count of carrying a concealed gun and one count of possession of a stolen firearm.

Police said Pineda shot Edgar Eduardo Ochoa and Norberto Munez-Juarez on Feb. 19.

The victims' conditions were not released.

Pineda was taken to the Wake County jail and bond was set at $500,000. He is scheduled to appear in court March 1.
