RALEIGH, N.C. — WRAL's Ken Smith loves the fair, especially the food. So, we asked him to give us his five favorite foods to enjoy at the annual event. He loves fair food so much that we let him choose his top six. Here's his list, in no particular order:
Al's Fries - "I don’t know what they put in that oil but whatever it is, I am hooked. There’s nothing like Al’s fries, hot right out of the fryer. Throw a dash or two or three of hot sauce on them and you are in fries heaven!"
State Fair sausage and peppers
Deep Fried Girl Scout Cookies - It doesn't even matter what kind of cookie it is, Smith loves them both! "How can you choose?" he says.
Turkey wings from Ragin Cajun - "That sauce that you get with them is lip smacking good," he said.
Italian sausage sandwich -  "My State Fair culinary experience is never complete without an Italian sausage sandwich with all the fixins - caramelized onions, sautéed peppers and spicy Italian sausage grilled to perfection! I don’t have a favorite place. I tend to eyeball the booth with mouth - watering looking sausages on the grill."
Sunrise United Methodist Church's ham biscuits - "For early morning Fair goers, these ham biscuits are worth the price of admission."
Caribbean Jerk Wings from a taco stand - "The Caribbean Family that runs it bought the booth from a family that use to serve tacos. The name of the booth is the same but the culinary treat is all about a taste of home for me. I am an Island man at heart, after all."
