— Former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband are expected to visit Raleigh on Sunday as part of their seven-state "Rights and Responsibilities Tour" to campaign for what they say is responsible gun ownership and gun-safety laws.

The former Arizona congresswoman's was shot in the head Jan. 8, 2011, during a public appearance at a grocery store near Tucson. Six people were killed and 12 others were also injured in the attack.

Giffords and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, will stop by a local clay shooting range, before they head to a round table discussion with gun owners at 11 a.m. They will end their visit at the Pit Authentic Barbecue on Davie Street in Raleigh.

Giffords and Kelly kicked off the tour in the Las Vegas area on Monday with a visit to the Clark County Shooting Complex. It was the first time Giffords had fired a gun publicly since she was wounded. Paralyzed in the right arm from the attack, she held the gun with just her left hand as she took aim at a target.

Earlier this week, the couple made appearances in Alaska, North Dakota, Ohio, New Hampshire and Maine.

The Rights and Responsibilities Tour is hosted by Kelly's group, Americans for Responsible Solutions, which he founded the week after Giffords's attack.

Kelly has said that he thinks background checks on people who want to buy firearms at gun shows can help prevent shooting-related deaths and injuries.

burdening them with back breaking taxes.jeffjohnson123.

I don't recall any of the mass murderers over the last few decades bringing that up as a reason for their crimes. Maybe you would like to explain the connection. Same with the drug murders - I know there is a tax on illegal drugs, but are they really paying it and expressing their frustration by killing other drug dealers or convenience store clerks? How about the spousal murders? Maybe they are just upset about that 7% state income tax, minus the numerous deductions. I'm sure that's it, it could not be because they either (a) considered their spouse their personal property and didn't want to let them leave or (b) hooked up with someone else and didn't want the hassle and expense (not tax related)of getting a divorce. Nah, it's all due to taxes.

What happened to her and others was deployable. Fewer guns isn't the answer but I can see how victims can react that way.
Maybe if the government would do a better job NOT interfering in people's lives and burdening them with back breaking taxes, there'd be less frustration and associated violence. Restore personal responsibility to the people.

So, WHERE are they going to be? If it is such a big deal, why not tell us where, so we can go and be educated by them?

"The snopes site uses DOCUMENTED International journalists"

teleman60, Are you saying that there is such a thing as an UNdocumented journalist? Journalism lost all credibility decades ago.

She needs to speak in her state. Her state has all the straw buyers of guns that sell to the Mexican drug cartel. We don't need someone from that problematic state telling us how to live. Her state lets all the illegal aliens in. What is she going to do other than apologize for their problems hurting us. They are even withholding where the meeting will be. For obvious reasons, no one wants her.

There's one bet we can safely wager. Obama's other mouthpiece Kay Hagan won't be anywhere near Gifford's appearance.
She has to keep up the "front" that she is a moderate that detests Obama's gun control agenda. The sad truth is that it probably works.

The snopes site uses DOCUMENTED International journalists and prints all the stories -- it's not king but the whole story is right there with interviews with gun shop owner and Mr Kelly himself.

    "abortion--responsible parties are personally involved.

-welfare--what does responsibility have to do with welfare?

-homosexuality-what does responsibility have to do with this?

-religion-free schools - unless we can accommodate ALL RELIGIONS choosing one shows favoritism over all others in a forum provided by public funds, which is against the law."

"It's unclear still where Giffords and her husband, former astronaut Mark Kelly, will appear in Raleigh, which is the final stop on the seven-day schedule."

How about one of the fine, locally owned gun shops/shooting ranges. They could demonstrate the proper gun control: using two hands.

"Funny, the location of her little tour is being withheld. I imagine her "audience" will be handpicked."

Exactly!!! But you can bet it will be where the highest concentration of wack jobs are: Chapel Hill or some similar anti-gun venue. Maybe even in Morrisville where the mayor has joined forces with the ditsy doodles.

I doubt she'll show her face in JoCo or somewhere similar.

"Her husband attempted to buy an AR15 and a "high capacity" handgun... but was shamed out of it when media got ahold of the story" More misinformation.

The story at the link is documented by Reuters and is explained that Mr Kelly could not speak about what is required to buy an assault rifle if he didn't actually buy one and also a handgun.

The story also tells that the shop owner turned Kelly down a few weeks earlier when he presented a Texas ID to purchase in AZ.

Why do some posters here keep saying insulting things about Giffords and Kelly and then just outright lies?
