SANFORD, N.C. — On Monday, some students in Lee County will return to classrooms for the first time since March.

Kindergarten and first-grade students are returning to school on an A/B schedule, where one group reports to school Monday and Tuesday and the other reports to school Thursday and Friday. On Wednesday, everyone learns from home while the school is deep-cleaned.

Grades 2-8 will also be phased in over a three-week period.

High school students will remain in all-remote learning until at least Oct. 13, when a hybrid plan will be presented at the next school board meeting.

Lee County Schools released a video showing parents and students what back-to-school looks like, including fewer students on the buses, temperature checks before each school day and a mask requirement.

Starting at 5 p.m. on Monday, the district will begin sharing a daily report showing the number of people who have tested positive.
