— Wayne County authorities said Tuesday that they have charged three juveniles with causing about $100,000 damage to a church cemetery and a Boy Scouts facility.

Providence United Methodist Church, at 202 Providence Church Road, reported that a building on church property used as a Boy Scout facility was broken into last month and damaged and that tombstones in the church cemetery were knocked over and broken.

Investigators found a baseball bat near the cemetery and identified some youths who live nearby as suspects.

The three juveniles have been charged with one count each of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering and 83 counts of disturbing a grave marker.

They should have been IN the church and the boy scouts~not destroying it because they have nothing better to do and no home training. Sounds like they need to do community service for a very very long time to make up for this.

Cleaning and maintaining the cemetry until they are 21 will certainly go along ways to sending a message.

"cemeteries have been plundered since they were first created. Where do you think all those mummies and Egyptian treasures come from? Plundered graves, All those pre columbian masks and gold ornaments...plundered graves. Face it, a couple hundred years from now you will probably either be dug up or just have your tombstone bulldozed to make way for a parking lot. The dead are dead, you can't hurt them."

So what you're saying is our graves are eventually going to be plundered because we're going to be buried with a lot of gold and valuables?

Not only would I make them serve community service by tending the site of the graves they desecrated, but I'd also make the family of the deceased show up to oversee their work. All the while with them holding a picture of the deceased loved one to show the little vandals while their working.

This is ridiculous. The dead can't rest in peace. Where are the parents of the three junveniles. The juveniles need to help to put things right and the parent have to pay for the damages. They are responsible for their juvenile children.

As a member of Providence, I would like to see these kids come to church on Sunday to apologize to the congregation. Should also make restitution for all damages. It was a shameful act on their part.
