RALEIGH, N.C. — Jury selection began Tuesday in the murder trial for one of three men charged in a November 2005 stabbing death of a Raleigh woman.

Byron Lamar Waring is on trial for the Nov. 8, 2005, slaying of 22-year-old Lauren Michele Redman outside her apartment on North Walnut Creek Parkway.

Police said Waring and another suspect, Joseph Sanderlin, went to Redman's apartment to collect money she allegedly owed to her former roommate, George Sasser, whom she had kicked out of the apartment.

Sanderlin also is charged with murder in the case, while Sasser is charged with being an accessory after the fact.

Redman was an English major at North Carolina State University, but she had not taken any classes there for more than a year. She was also a graduate of East Wake High School, where she was a standout tennis player.
