— Search crews recovered the body of a man who drowned at Jordan Lake Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Javier Castro, who authorities said was in his late teens, was swimming with his family about 30 yards off shore at the Seaforth Recreation Area, said Jordan Lake State Park Superintendent Shederick Mole said. When a relative swam to shore, he looked back and noticed Castro wasn't with him, Mole said.

Authorities closed the beach for about 90 minutes while boats, divers and paramedics searched the lake for the man.

The beach was reopened shortly after 3:30 p.m.

How tragic. My family and I just camped at Jordan Lake this week-end. I was wondering why all the cop cars were there when we left at 1 PM. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

There are FREE lifevests at Seaforth with signs in English and Spanish directing you to them. Also, many non-native visitors swim in regular clothing like JEANS which are heavy and make it even more difficult if you are not a strong swimmer.

This is very unfortunate. My condolences to his familty and friends.

However, this doesn't mean we need to hire more life guards. It means we should all be aware of our own limitations and take the necessary precautions.
