APEX, N.C. — The Poplar Point campground at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area will close Sept. 7 for a road and facilities project to improve the campground’s entrance, according to the North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation.

New traffic lanes on the park entrance road and renovations to the entry kiosk will be completed at the 579-site campground. The project will improve access during heavy visitation, especially on weekends and holidays, and is expected to be completed by April 15.

The Poplar Point campground was scheduled to be closed for routine maintenance during the winter months, and the closure will be extended to accommodate the construction.

Jordan Lake’s Crosswinds campground will remain open throughout the period to accommodate year-round camping, and portions of the Parker’s Creek campground will remain open through Nov. 28 and reopen on March 1.

The state parks system’s central reservations system accepts reservations for Crosswinds up to 48 hours in advance by calling 1-877-CAMP-NC (722-6762). Reservations can also be made in person at the park visitor center during regular business hours or through www.ncparks.gov.
