Joint operation nets 60 arrests in eastern N.C.
The United States Marshals Service in the Eastern District of North Carolina, Wilmington Police Department and New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office arrested 60 people in a joint operation last week.

In addition to the arrests, Operation Jaws (Joint Arrest Warrant Service) resulted in 131 warrants served, six firearms seized and more than 50 grams of crack cocaine recovered. Smaller quantities of heroin and marijuana were also recovered.
Those arrested included people wanted for murder, rape, armed robbery and narcotics offenses. Arrests were made in eastern North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Maryland.
Some of the individuals arrested:
Adam Elijah Ward, 21, of Wilmington, was arrested April 23 by U.S. Marshals in Baltimore, Md., just prior to the start of the operation. Ward is a suspect in the August 2007 murder of Geoffrey Graham.
Joseph Elhaj, 18, of Hampstead, was arrested April 28 after allegedly committing two armed robberies in Wilmington. Arrest teams from the operation were in the area of the last robbery and saw a car matching the description of the getaway vehicle. Officers were able to stop the car near the intersection of 16th and Market Streets and recover a firearm.
James Cureton, 37, of New York, was arrested April 27 on Cameron Court in Wilmington. Cureton was wanted by the Albany Police Department for a second-degree murder charge stemming from an incident in October 2009.
