I'll be at the WRAL tent at the NC State Fair on Friday, October 18 from 12 - 2 pm. We'll have freebies (incredibly cool and useful Smart Shopper grocery list note pads!)  AND and everyone who visits the tent while I am there can register to win a $25 Harris Teeter gift card! If you will be at the fair on Friday, please come by and say hello!

You can also visit with super-mom Sarah Hall with Go Ask Mom from 10 am - 12 noon and the Out and About folks from 2 pm - 4 pm on Friday. For the full WRAL tent schedule, head to or click the link in the box above.

That's exciting baseball2hockey! I have always wanted to do that. I would love to hear about how it goes. I'm always curious how people keep the food hot and presentable in traveling to the fair with it and putting it out for the judges. I would always pick a room temperature item -- LOL!

baseball2hockey - looking forward to seeing you again! And good luck with all your food entries. Let us know how you do!

mikke114 - I will only be at the WRAL booth on Friday. That's the day they have all the folks scheduled, including Sarah Hall with Go Ask Mom who will be there just before me and the Out and About folks who will be there after me.

Thank you for the compliments, sunflower. I just like to experiment with ingredients and sometimes I get lucky with the combinations. I feel like a winner when my husband loves whatever comes out and when he raves about it at work and on social media. But it does stress me out a little bit every year, but I do like to have fun testing new recipes.

Faye will you be there any other days?

I can't believe the fair starts Thursday already. My plans are to try my luck again with the Food Competitions this year. I should be able to come by the tent Friday since that is one of the days I will be entering. That is one way to get free admission. For every entry you bring in you are allowed to get into the fair for free according to their contest rules. I have not had to pay to get in since 2010. I plan on entering in at least 6 or 7 competitions. Just hope the weather cooperates.

Sadly, I will not be trying any fried foods this year, sunflower. Need to stay away from them these days. :-(

I wish I had some free tickets to give away this year - but I don't.

Not sure if you are aware of the free admission day at the fair when you bring in Food Lion canned goods. With a good sale on the cans, you could get in for much less than the full price of $9 for adult admission. Here are the details:

Bring 5 cans per person on Thursday, October 24 to get in free.
