Scenes from past N.C. Symphony Summerfest concerts at Booth Amphitheatre
I'm getting excited for this Saturday when I'll be helping to emcee the N.C. Symphony's performance at Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary with the hosts of Mix 101.5 WRAL FM's Two Men and a Mom.
Part of the symphony's Summerfest series, Saturday's concert is called "A Space Spectacular. It features music that shows how composers across generations and genres have imagined the mysteries of space in their music, according to the description. So, you'll hear music from Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind by John Williams to selections from Holst's The Planets.

And there won't be just music. When the gates open at 5:30 p.m., the symphony will have its Instrument Zoo display, where kids can try out all kinds of instruments. There will be free face painting. And Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion Carolina Garrison will be on hand for pictures and meet and greets.

This concert is a lot of fun for families. Tickets for kids 12 and under are free. Tickets for the rest of us start at $30 for general admission lawn seats.

Be sure to bring chairs, blankets and coolers with picnic dinners. Beer and wine is allowed. Symphony representatives will be roaming the crowd to pick the "Picnic of the Week" winner.
