"I think it is amazing how the majority of the comments made here are pure speculation.

Stating that no one would have been shot if there was no gun present is far from speculation.

I think it is amazing how the majority of the comments made here are pure speculation. I know this young man and his family. It is hard for me to watch this family go through this ordeal. Religion, kool-aid, and drugs are not the issue here! We are in Johnston County people, our families hunt, fish, and we have guns. I feel that something had to have happened to cause Joe to cross that line.

"You think he shot his father because his father drank his Koolaid? That sounds kind of silly to me.
    Dat MoFo"

No it has nothing to do with the father drinking the kid's koolaid. There has been a recent rash about Koolaid drinking. The comments are inane gibberish. They have no meaning whatsoever.

"Does anyone know why the father had a gun where a 16yr old could have access, or was it the childs gun?
    nanasix"

No but I do know that if there was no gun in the house no one would have been shot. We all know the old saying, "guns do not kill people, people with guns kill people."

"When you take religion out of every aspect of life and kids lives this is what you get.So be ready to deal with it from now on.You asked for it you got it liberals. mrman2a

How do you know this kid had no religion in his life? There is no mention of religion in the article and your comment has no bearing whatsoever on the article. Who knows, maybe he had religion shoved down his throat all the time and went off the deep end.

Do you not know that all one must do is sit in church for an hour on Sunday mornings and it magically makes one a perfect citizen?

I know this young man and he was always very polite and quiet. I wonder what is behind this story? The Joe I know is a wonderful young man!

Needless to say that if the kid did not have a gun he would not have shot his father. I suppose this will bring forth some inane comment about Koolaid? Nevertheless it is extremely difficult to shoot someone if there is not a gun present.

Kids today that have had little parenting or soem who have get into stuff by 13 now and the kid could have had a pistoland the father didn't know it. wont' be first time a pre teen has used gun in this coutry.

Children are no longer taught manors, morals, etc. What can we expect? Does anyone know why the father had a gun where a 16yr old could have access, or was it the childs gun? There are a lot of facts to this story that hasn't been made public at this point. Has the 16yr old been in trouble before? How does he do in school? Was the father drunk? Had he hit the boy? Just lots and lots of questions. Don't judge until we have some of these answers.
