— A Johnston County man pleaded guilty Thursday to killing his stepfather last year.

Ricky David Faircloth, 22, of 852 McLamb Road in Dunn, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the April 3, 2011, shooting death of Ernest Marvin Tart. He was sentenced to 12 to 15 years in prison.

Investigators said Faircloth was trying to strangle his girlfriend when Tart, 44, intervened. Faircloth then grabbed a shotgun, and it went off as the two men struggled over it.

"Coretta Scott is a hoot! I can only assume "You may wish to educate yourself" is a passive/aggressive term for "All my friends got off easy for 2nd degree murder, too", since most sentences are around the 20 year mark. Bottom line is Faircloth is a monster that got slapped on the wrist and one day he'll probably kill someone else." -- eyesofgreen

That pretty much sums it up. Side note, I got a chuckle from it, too.

His girlfriend must be in a complete panic knowing this murderer is going to be out at the age of 25, give or take a year.

So, what is 12 to 15 years in real time?

He was trying to kill his girlfriend and he did kill his step-father. I have a problem with his sentence.

This is one kid that needs to be locked away for a long, long time.

He's an abusive murderer and all he gets is a slap on the wrist? Obviously I've missed something... h3ardita11b4

there is a big difference between 1st and 2nd degree murder. You may wish to educate yourself.
