— A jury on Thursday convicted a Pine Level man in the shooting death of his lifelong friend almost two years ago.

Stefan Gudac, 25, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter in the Nov. 27, 2010, death of Devin Barber. He was sentenced to 64 to 86 months in prison.

Gudac told a 911 dispatcher that he had shot Barber, 20, of Smithfield, after Barber refused to leave Gudac’s home.

He initially had been charged with first-degree murder in the case.

It's Not WHAT you know, It's WHO you know. Stefan has always been a little weird. He knew exactly what he was doing we he shot that kid. JOHNSTON COUNTY, hence the reason you can STILL ride by the Pine Level town hall and see the gun in the open evidence room. smh!!

Okay folks, there's your sign. The jury made that decision, not a judge, prosecutor or defense attorney. Talk to your jury serving neighbors, no justice there that is for sure. That's not "the NC System" that is a jury of inbeciles!

Stefan Gudac is the son of Pine Level's commissioner of water and sewer, Anthony Gudac. SMH

Listening to that 911 call was the worst thing I've ever heard. I don't understand the verdict at all. My prayers go out to both families. RIP Devin.

I would like to correct an error in this report.Devin never refused to leave the Gudac home. He tried to leave but Stefan had hidden Devins'keys and refused to give them to him ( Gudac admitted to this on the stand). To this day those keys have never turned up. Stefan basically held Devin against his will and Murdered him. There was no justice served in Johnston County yesterday, Stefan got a slap on the hand. May God have mercy on all those involved in this injustice to Devin.

SMH...way too lenient. Listen to the 911 calls - no emotion whatsover from Mr. Gudac. My children went to school with the three Gudac children, and one of my dear friends lives down the street from Devin's mother. This is a tragedy all around, but, justice was not served, in my opinion. RIP Devin.
