Johnston County OKs mixed-use development

Posted October 6, 2009

Johnston County commissioners approved a proposal Monday night for a retail development to be located at the intersection of Interstate 40 and N.C. Highway 42.

The River Oaks development would bring more than 1 million square feet of retail, residential and office space to the area.

The county predicted construction on the project would begin within three years.

This topic has been covered more thoroughly on another website. Posters there say that the plans indicate another exit on 40 that will go directly to the shopping area.

twc, Your're right about the traffic. Unfortunately, the dealings I've had with the County Commissioners in the past has shown me that they only care about the money. Best I could tell they are bought and paid for, so they probably won't look back now that they've approved the project, and the traffic won't get a second thought from them.

They can't handle traffic at the 40/42 exits now; what are they going to do when traffic increases?

It is absolutely horrendous the way they have those traffic signals timed!!!!!
