A Johnston County man was severely burned in an explosion while working on his truck Saturday afternoon.

KENLY, N.C. — A Johnston County man was severely burned in an explosion while working on his truck Saturday afternoon.

Officials said the 67-year-old man was at his home on Old Beulah Road, near Kenly, when an explosion occurred near his truck’s engine.

The man, whose name was not released, was flown by helicopter to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Officials said he suffered burns over 40 percent of his body.
