Johnston County jailer fired after DWI arrest

— A Johnston County jailer was off the job on Sunday after she was arrested on charges of driving while impaired and possession of moonshine.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol said Shirley Woodard Tyndall crashed into a ditch along U.S. Highway 301 in Wilson County, near Lucama, while trying to cross the four-lane road early Saturday morning.

Tyndall, who worked at the jail for about two years, was fired shortly after her arrest, Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell said. She also faces a charge of careless and reckless driving.

Her husband, Thomas Joseph Tyndall, was also in the vehicle with her, was also charged with aiding and abetting DWI and possession of moonshine.

    Wasn't there a full, or close to, full moon sunday night? Bet that had something to do with it. Moonshine and full moon don't mix, makes the moonshine more potent.

    The Sheriff has a Zero Tolerance Policy. People that work for the Sheriff's Department should set an example and lead by example. She knew when she took the job that if she got in trouble and arrested she would be let go. She is old enough to know better.
