Johnston County investigating another arson

Johnston County firefighters were called to a blaze at an abandoned house on Stevens Sausage Road in the Brogden community Monday around 1 a.m.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. — Johnston County firefighters were called to a blaze at an abandoned house on Stevens Sausage Road in the Brogden community Monday around 1 a.m.

A neighbor called 911 after his dog saw the flames and started barking. 

Across the county line in Wayne, a vacant home on Sealah Church Road between Grantham and Four Oaks caught fire about five hours later. Wayne County investigators are talking to Johnston County to see if there is a connection.

County and local authorities in Johnston County are working together to try and find a possible link among more than 35 fires set in Smithfield, Clayton and throughout the southern part of the county over the past year.
