— The Town of Clayton and Johnston County will receive a $1.5 million federal grant for water system improvements in the east Clayton industrial area, U.S. Sen. Kay Hagan said Thursday.

The improvements, which will increase water flow in the region, are expected to create and protect many jobs.

In Johnston County, customers of the Smithfield water system have dealt with multiple boil water advisories this summer when samples tested positive for coliform bacteria.

$1.5 million grant divided by 397 jobs = $3,778 per job. How does Sen. Hagan figure that this one-time grant will create - and then protect - 397 jobs? Do the math, people. It doesn't add up.

Not sure how much system improvements 1.5 million will buy, but the 397 jobs are safe for another year.
