OK ... so I'm a little late in writing about this as Friday is the last day for Lazy O Farm's summer scavenger hunts for the season. Better late than never, as they say.

Lazy O Farm in Johnston County started offering these summer scavenger hunts for the first time this year. They have been every Friday in June and July and have been pretty popular, Tami Thompson of Lazy O tells me.  They plan on doing it again next year.

The scavenger hunt includes a self guided tour of the barnyard animals, activities, a hayride, a playground and picnic area. The final one of the season is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Friday at the farm at 3583 Packing Plant Rd. in Smithfield. The cost is $5 per person.

Tami tells me that most of the kids who have participated in the event have been in preschool through about fifth or sixth grade. But parents and teens who come with younger kids have a blast too. They spend more time doing the actual scavenger hunt while the younger kids just enjoyed seeing the animals and going on the hayride, she said.

After this Friday, the farm will close until Oct. 1 when it will hold its Maze Dayz through Oct. 31. The farm will open its doors to groups of 10 and more on the weekdays by appointment and to the public on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a maze, pumpkin patch, hayride and more. Prices ranges from $5 to $13 per person. And November brings Turkey Dayz.

Check Lazy O Farm's website for details, contact information and directions.
