— Area firefighters came together to honor one of their own Sunday afternoon in Johnston County.

A giant American flag hung from two ladder trucks outside the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department as firefighters held a memorial to remember 21-year-old Christopher Eargle of Clayton.

He died in a motorcycle crash on May 30. Wendell Police said he lost control of his bike and landed in a ditch.

Eargle was a volunteer fire fighter with the Cleveland Fire Department.

Caleb (as he was known by his family and friends) was a very loyal and dedicated person. I had the honor of coaching this young man and can say I've never coached a more team-oriented player. Caleb was respectful and always willing to pay his dues. As a friend, you knew he had your back and would go to the wall for you. This loss is tragic and he will be sorely missed by many. I am honored to have known this fine young man.

Wasn't that crash on May 30th? Not June 30th?

June 30? Pardon me, I was just wondering, was this a recent accident. Either way, it is a tragedy.
