Here are the children and young adult authors stopping at Quail Ridge Books & Music this month. Descriptions of the books come courtesy of the great staff at Quail Ridge's children's department.
  • 7 p.m., Nov. 6, author James Dashner visits with his book "The Eye of Minds." From the Maze Runner author comes the first book in The Mortality Doctrine series, set in a world of hyperadvanced technology, cyberterrorists, and gaming beyond your wildest dreams...and your worst nightmares. For ages 12 and up.
  • 5 p.m., Nov. 14, two award-winning author/illustrators visit with their new Christmas picture books. John Agee drops in with his book "Little Santa." With sly humor and read-aloud pleasure, this tale of Santa’s beginnings is an instant classic. For ages 3 and up. And Loren Long is there with "An Otis Christmas." It's a warm, feel-good story featuring everyone's favorite tractor, Otis, the friend you can always count on. Ages 4 and up.
  • 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Nov. 23, acclaimed author and illustrator Jan Brett comes to town with her book "Cinders: A Chicken Cinderella." One magical Russian winter night, Cinders, the most picked upon hen in the flock, meets Prince Cockerel at the ball. For ages 3 and up. Brett is sure to draw many for her visit. She is best known for her gorgeous and detailed illustrations. I love pouring over her books with my kids. Brett will do a 15 to 20 minute drawing illustration and presentation. Then she will sign books purchased at Quail Ridge. This is a signing line ticket event. You'll get a ticket for the signing line when you purchase Cinders from Quail Ridge (you can order your book in advance). She'll sign any number of copies of Cinders and one earlier book. Hedgie the Hedgehog, one of Brett's classic characters, will be on hand. And you can get a picture in front of her Cinders-decorated tour bus.
  • 3 p.m., Nov. 24, Elizabeth Langston visits with her book "Whisper Falls." Through a waterfall, a young man meets an indentured servant girl from the past. How might his actions change her history? For teens and up.

Quail Ridge Books is at 3522 Wade Ave. in Raleigh.
