Many years ago, while working as a morning anchor at WFAA in Dallas, a boss of mine said to me, "Jackie working in the news business is a sacrifice."
He was so right!
Too many Thanksgivings, Christmas and New Year's holidays have gone by with me at work and my very understanding husband and daughters either alone like they were last year or at a relative's house.
This year, at Thanksgiving, was so special! I was off from work for two days! My sister, her husband and two children along with my dad came to celebrate Thanksgiving with us in North Carolina!
They drove overnight from New York to avoid bad weather, but they still encountered wet weather and slippery roads. After more than 10 grueling hours they arrived exhausted, but safe. We were thrilled to have them.
It was my dad's first visit to North Carolina and he loved it!! I knew he would. It is a beautiful state and, in so many ways, it reminds me of Ireland.
We did so much while they were here, including spending time with family and friends. Since we are a big volleyball family, we went to see a Duke vs. UNC volleyball game at Duke. Four days of fun!
Life can be so hectic and it slips by so quickly. Thanksgiving made me realize how important it is to slow down and spend time with family and friends whenever you can!
Those memories from Thanksgiving will make me treasure the day - Christmas day - I have with my family this week even more. Merry Christmas!
