J.C. Penney announces closure of 138 stores, including Roanoke Rapids

J.C. Penney announced Friday that it is closing 138 stores across the country, including one in central North Carolina. The company said it will close the J.C. Penny in Becker Village Mall in Roanoke Rapids.

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — J.C. Penney announced Friday that it is closing 138 stores across the country, including one in central North Carolina.

The company said it will close the J.C. Penny in Becker Village Mall in Roanoke Rapids.

It was not immediately clear why that location will close, but the company said most of the stores on the closing list will close in the second quarter.

Liquidations are expected to start next month.
