Irregardless named one of the best vegetarian restaurants in America

Posted October 1, 2015

Irregardless Cafe and Catering has earned top honors again for its vegetarian cuisine.

OpenTable Diners named the Raleigh restaurant one of America's 52 "Best Restaurants for Vegetarians." The results were determined by more than five million reviews submitted by the website's verified diners over the past year.

"We are honored and pleased that our 40 year approach and unique interpretations have been recognized by vegetarians on OpenTable," owner Arthur Gordon said. "Irregardless is a place where the 'lion and the lamb' can eat together."

The cafe started as a vegetarian and vegan restaurant in 1975. Seven years later, proteins were added to the menu. Now, Irregardless is a farm-to-table restaurant featuring delicious sides with proteins and truly innovative vegetarian, vegan and gluten free meals.

Earlier this year, Irregardless won WRAL Out and About Voters' Choice Awards for best gluten-free options and best vegetarian cuisine.

First, I cannot believe how incredibly difficult it is to post a comment on the WRAL website. Second, Ms. Hanrahan states that "proteins were added to the menu." This perpetuates the myth and lack of scientific understanding that plants (vegetables, fruits, fungi, legumes, nuts, etc) have protein. More specifically, it was "animals" that were added to the menu. Also, the WRAL Out and About Voters must not know about the ACTUAL best vegetarian and gluten-free friendly restaurant in Raleigh which is Fiction Kitchen. The prices are more reasonable and Chef Caroline and her crew work with local farmers and create beautiful food from plants. They are creating a local food revolution (with compassion) that does not utilize meat and limits dairy and eggs.
