— Authorities are hoping a $20,000 reward will generate new leads in their investigation into the slaying of a Hoke County High School student more than a year ago.

The Hoke County Sheriff’s Office posted the reward Tuesday in the case of DeAndre “Papa” Ricketts, 16, who was shot and killed during a birthday party he attended in Raeford on Oct. 13, 2013.

Investigators said gunfire erupted about 2 a.m. during the party, which drew more than 100 people.

“Law enforcement made previous attempts to talk to people at the party and track down other leads,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement. “No arrests have been made and the murder investigation is still ongoing.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Capt. John Kivett at 910-878-1216 or 910-624-5562.

Someone knows but is not talking. How do this person sleep at night and go on with their life? Praying that the person (s) will come forward and tell what they know. They would want someone to speak for them if they had been killed.

And so, will someone in the "black" community come forward? Do any of the people at that party care that this young man was killed? Hopefully yes.
