Across the Triangle, contractors for Google and AT&T are racing to be the first to upgrade to fiber and get new business for high-speed Internet.

— Internet was restored Thursday evening to thousands of AT&T customers in parts of the Triangle after installation crews cut fiber lines.

It's unclear exactly how many customers were experiencing service issues, but AT&T officials said fiber line was cut in at least one place in Cary. An AT&T spokesman said early Friday morning that crews worked "around the clock to repair the damaged cable as quickly as possible."

I certainly hope the cable they're laying provides better service than their existing internet service. Worse I've ever experienced. Goes out or freezes up at least 10 times per day. ATT can't do anything to fix it and have me locked in a contract. Techs have been to my house over a dozen times. Terrible service!!!

well, that's not entirely accurate........AT&T's "top priority" is separating their customers from their money..
